JHELUM: PML-N lifetime president Nawaz Sharif on Monday said that Herculean efforts are being made to send him to jail and that his battle is not against Imran Khan or Asif Zardari, but “those above them”.
“I know that tireless efforts are being made to try and send me to jail. Our battle is not against Imran Khan or Asif Ali Zardari, but against those who the two receive dictations from,” Nawaz said while addressing a N-league rally in Jhelum.
Taking jabs at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan, the former PM said: “my battle is not against Imran Khan. Jackals can never compete with lions. The people of Pakistan will block all entries from the backdoor because this brave nation will never accept cowards as its leader.”
He also challenged Imran to reveal his “umpire”, while Nawaz also asked Khan to “stop hiding behind invisible forces” and compete with PML-N courageously and independently.
The former PM continued that Imran has “failed to live up to his Naya Pakistan claims” since he has not produced decisive results in PTI-administered Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. “There are no schools, no hospitals, no roads, and I don’t see Naya KP anywhere.”
Lauding the PML-N government’s performance, the former premier said: “PML-N strengthened Pakistan’s defence, eliminated terrorism and energy crisis from the country, but still I was ousted even though no corruption allegations were proven against me.”
Nawaz said that for 70 years, the sanctity of vote has been ridiculed and that the PML-N will not let that continue anymore. He also vowed to produce “better results” than the ongoing tenure if PML-N is elected to power in 2018 again.
