The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has started its investigation into alleged corruption by Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar. A private news channel reported that two applications were filed in the NAB, accusing the Punjab chief minister of corruption. Its sources said that NAB officials had confirmed the contents of the applications and started a probe into the allegations. NAB Lahore Director General Major (r) Shahzad Saleem said that top officials at the NAB Headquarters were aware of the matter and that had ordered to take necessary action on it. The channel reported that the provincial chief minister had been accused of getting a government helicopter insured for Rs 70 million instead of Rs 30 million. The chief minister had ordered the amount for the helicopter insurance to be paid from supplementary grants, it added. In addition, the chief minister was also accused of illegally awarding an alcohol-sale permit to a private hotel in Lahore, the channel reported.
